Jeddah Hosts China-Saudi Media Symposium to Enhance Cooperation and Innovation in

The city of Jeddah hosted the “China-Saudi Media Symposium,” organized by the Consulate
General of the People’s Republic of China in Jeddah, in the presence of H.E. Chinese Consul
General Yang Yi, and with broad participation from representatives of media institutions.

Foremost among them were the representative of the Union of News Agencies of the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) and Mr. Wang Haichao, Director of the Xinhua News
Agency office in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The symposium comes as part of efforts to open new avenues for dialogue and to strengthen
media and development cooperation between the two sides. It coincides with the 70th
anniversary of the establishment of relations between the People’s Republic of China and Arab
countries, and with the publication of the first book by Chinese President Xi Jinping marking the
80th anniversary of the Communist Party of China.

The symposium featured an extensive discussion session focused on developing journalists’
capabilities and exchanging professional expertise between Saudi and Chinese media outlets.

Participants also discussed the dimensions of the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), launched
by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the Summit of the Heads of State of the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization in Tianjin.

Participants highlighted the initiative, which is the fourth in the series of major global initiatives
put forward by the Chinese president (following the Global Development, Global Security, and
Global Civilization Initiatives). They reviewed its five core principles: adhering to sovereign
equality, abiding by international rule of law, practicing multilateralism, advocating a people-
centered approach, and focusing on taking real actions.

The discussions emphasized the importance of this vision for building a more just and equitable
global governance system that strengthens the central role of the United Nations and activates
the role of the Global South in addressing comprehensive challenges such as climate change,
the digital divide, and regional conflicts. The symposium concluded with both sides affirming
their commitment to continued media coordination in order to convey a realistic picture and to
consolidate the strategic partnership between the two countries.
