Sony World Photography Awards announces NATIONAL AWARDS 2022 Saudi Arabia Winner
The World Photography Organisation and Sony Middle East & Africa are delighted to reveal Mazin Alhassan as Saudi Arabia’s National Award winner for the Sony World Photography Awards 2021.
Over 340,000 images from 211 territories were submitted to the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 and over 170,000 were entered to the Open competition (from which the National Awards winner was selected).
Mazin Alhassan was anonymously selected by judges for his photograph Stars over Yellowstone, entered into the Landscape category of the Open competition. The winning image is an astrophotography shot at the Norris Geyser Basin, the hottest geyser basin in Yellowstone. It is located near the northwest edge of Yellowstone Caldera near Norris Junction and on the intersection of three major faults.
A marketing professional by trade and a photographer by passion, Mazin Alhassasn has over 20 years’ experience in Marketing, Advertising & Photography. His art is a vehicle of storytelling & cultural expression of his nomadic journey.
Commenting on his win Alhassan said: “I am so thankful to be selected amongst such an amazing line-up of talented photographers. The feeling is surreal and still setting in. I am so thankful for this opportunity to Sony for creating a platform where photography is appreciated in its rawest form.”
As Saudi Arabia’s National Award winner, Mazin Alhassan receives Sony digital imaging equipment and will be included in the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition and book. The overall winners in the Student, Youth, Open and Professional competition of the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 will be announced on the 12 April 2022 and will go on display as part of the exhibition at Somerset House, London (13 April-2 May 2022).
