Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi Implements SAS to Protect the Emirate’s Biodiversity and Natural Wealth

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (gulftech) – The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), the organisation responsible for the regulation and implementation of environmental laws in Abu Dhabi, has implemented SAS Analytics to support its environmental initiatives. This will assist the Agency to utilise its data towards making more informed decisions and driving positive change.

The SAS Analytics solution provides a unified platform for data exploration, advanced analytics, decisioning and visualization. It intelligently helps users to explore data, uncover insights, summarize results, and share them widely across the organization in an enhanced user experience.

EAD started as a small group of pioneering ecologists in 1996 and the organisation has grown consistently, making significant breakthroughs within the science and conservation realm. EAD is now one of the largest environmental regulators in the Middle East and an integral part of the Government of Abu Dhabi’s strive towards achieving its Environment Vision of 2030.

“The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi is the designated competent authority to protect and preserve the environment in Abu Dhabi. Environmental protection and preservation require information derived from analyses of credible scientific data, gathered from the Agency’s monitoring and inspection programme. The Agency also publishes and shares this information as indicators, reports, research, educational and executive media materials, and others.” said Ahmed Baharoon Executive Director, Environmental Information Science and Outreach Management, EAD.

He added: “In order to do its job effectively, EAD needs to be able to organise its large volume of environmental data, manage it effectively and analyse it to decide on the measures and approaches required to ensure sustainable development. Using traditional methods to access environmental data and process them manually is very time consuming and inefficient, in addition to the large number of human errors that can negatively affect the accuracy and quality of the data. As such, we are using modern data analytical tools to ensure it is accurate, credible and scientific.”

Commenting on the initiative, Michel Ghorayeb, Country Manager, UAE at SAS said: “SAS has always been committed to building and developing an innovators-led global community that possess the power and capabilities to positively impact our planet. Our collaboration with Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, a true pioneer in environmental protection, who spotlight issues that matter to the present and future of humanity, exemplifies that commitment. As we continuously innovate towards developing AI models aimed at delivering near real-time assessments of environmental change, the Agency’s intellectual power and leadership position further strengthens our science research platforms to deliver truly impactful human insights.”
