{"id":79748,"date":"2025-09-02T11:26:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T08:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftech-news.com\/en\/?p=79748"},"modified":"2025-09-03T11:20:45","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T08:20:45","slug":"agentic-ai-banks-should-handle-with-care-personalization-expert-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftech-news.com\/en\/2025\/09\/02\/agentic-ai-banks-should-handle-with-care-personalization-expert-warns\/","title":{"rendered":"Middle East\u2019s \u2018Safety-first\u2019 Approach to AI Represents a Competitive Advantage in an Age of Agentic, Personalisation Expert Asserts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vivek Seetharaman, Moneythor\u2019s Chief Product Officer, cites the UAE\u2019s \u2018measured approach\u2019 as a best practice for the banking sector<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The potential value and differentiation that \u2018self-learning\u2019 AI can deliver to the financial services sector is exponential; but so are the risks<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>$320 billion is projected to be added to the Middle East region\u2019s economy by 2030 through AI adoption, according to estimates from PWC<a id=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a>.\u00a0 And this is particularly the case within the banking sector where \u2013 based on research from Bloomberg<a id=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> \u2013 Agentic AI&#8217;s impact on bank productivity and efficiency is actually likely to \u2018exceed expectations\u2019 over the coming 3 to 5 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This promise, however, comes with important considerations that leading experts are starting to highlight.&nbsp; According to Vivek Seetharaman, Chief Product Officer at Moneythor, the world-leading personalisation platform for banks, for instance, the term &#8216;exponential&#8217; can be applied as equally to the risks as to the potential of the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAgentic AI will help banks realise the true potential of what we call \u2018Deep Banking\u2019; personalized (individualized) experiences, that anticipate customer requirements, and have the potential to extend beyond the domain of traditional banking services.&nbsp; In this sense, the impact could certainly be described as \u2018exponential\u2019,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut \u2013 in reality &#8211; so are the risks. These range from data integrity (mis-classified data; an account overdraft mis-presented as a balance, for instance), to heightened risk of security breaches (resulting from AI agents autonomously interacting with multiple proprietary and third-party data services).\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exponentiality stems from the nature of agentic AI &#8211; and the very aspect that makes it so compelling; layers of decisions being made, refined and repeated based on the same logic. Agents that \u2018learn\u2019 from inaccurate or incomplete data risk compounding their errors, and the consequences for a bank and its customers are evident.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditional personalization and customer engagement techniques are based on predefined rules that govern the behavior of a system, while Agentic AI can literally learn on the job.&nbsp; Vivek goes on to cite the UAE\u2019s \u2018safety first\u2019 approach to AI as a particularly compelling approach when incorporating Agentic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith initiatives like Smart Dubai and various AI driven government programs, the UAE\u2019s commitment to strategic AI deployment is clear.&nbsp; The emergence of Agentic AI is a logical progression of the region\u2019s ambition to lead in the digital disruption race across industries. Each of these initiatives is accompanied and supported by a regulatory framework to ensure the maintenance of strict governance standards throughout the process. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake, this goes beyond simple compliance; these structures and best practices already represent a distinct competitive advantage for the region in the race to deploy AI, where banks and financial institutions, in particular, will be uniquely placed.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vivek lists the following principals as crucial to ensuring the Agentic AI\u2019s full potential is realised, rather than its risks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The establishment of<strong> guardrails<\/strong> around specific language and contexts that could signal risk or potential incoherencies.\u00a0 Importantly, these guardrails should be appropriate and applicable irrespective of the LLM \u2013 by their very nature, LLM-specific rules can become entirely ineffective in the event of an update or LLM change (an inevitability across banks with multiple systems or the result of acquisitions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fully documented <strong>governance procedures<\/strong> for the treatment and use of all data (including third party).
