Tech investor Makhat says startups must adopt proven strategies that fuel growth, attract investment, and build lasting impact<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tech landscape in the UAE and the MENA region overall continues to evolve rapidly, presenting both opportunities and challenges for startups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this environment, building a business that not only survives but thrives on a global scale demands much more than just an innovative idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rashit Makhat, Director and co-founder of Scalo Technologies, the UAE tech venture company, sees the region as a dynamic hub for tech startups, with the Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar in particular showing strong resilience in 2024 in response to tough global trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia maintained its position as the most funded country across MENA in Venture Capital for the second year in a row, with MAGNiTT research showing that startups raised M$750 million in Venture Capital, as the Kingdom recorded a record 178 deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UAE recorded a 10% in increase in total investors last year and a 9% rise in total deals, while Qatar achieved a 24% YoY increase in transactions, largely driven by early-stage activity, with $1M\u2013$5M funding rounds climbing by 19% YoY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But in order to scale successfully, Makhat, a serial entrepreneur and tech investor, says startups must adopt proven strategies that fuel growth, attract investment, and build lasting impact, and he outlines six key steps founders can take to achieve global success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Understand your market deeply:<\/strong> Don\u2019t just know your customers – understand their habits, values, and spending limits. Use this knowledge to send out messages that make sense to them, and keeps them engaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Focus on niche markets and differentiation:<\/strong> With the regional ecosystem maturing, competition for market share and investor attention is intensifying. Founders should concentrate on niche markets or unique customer segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tailored offerings that address specific needs can build a loyal customer base, helping startups stand out in crowded markets, paving the way for global recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Build a strong, adaptive team:<\/strong> Talent is critical for growth, yet global data shows 75% of tech companies struggle to find the right people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Startups can overcome this by fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, offering equity or stock options, and investing in employee development. This not only attracts top talent but also retains them, ensuring a skilled workforce to navigate challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
