Cairo, Gulf Tech News
The American University in Cairo (AUC) celebrated the opening of the new Career Development Center of the School of Continuing Education (SCE) in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital during an event titled “Empowering the Future: Workforce Development and Industry Partnership Initiative.”
The event brought together Dr. Ehab Abdel Rahman, Provost of The American University in Cairo; Dr. Mahmoud Allam, Dean of the School of Continuing Education; senior university leaders; government officials; private-sector executives; education experts; and development partners.
The newly established center aims to support workforce development and enhance employability through a broad portfolio of professional training programs in leadership, management, technology, entrepreneurship, languages, teacher development, and professional certification. The center will also serve as a platform for collaboration with public- and private-sector partners to address evolving labor market needs.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mahmoud Allam highlighted the School of Continuing Education’s vision to advance career readiness and professional excellence across key sectors.
“This center represents far more than a new location,” said Allam. “It is a strategic platform designed to empower talent, strengthen institutions, and foster meaningful partnerships among academia, industry, and government.”
He added that SCE remains committed to equipping current and future generations with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to thrive through innovative programs, professional certifications, and workforce development initiatives that contribute to Egypt’s economic growth and competitiveness.

The event also featured a keynote address by Professor Bodo B. Schlegelmilch, Professor of Global Marketing Strategy and Dean Emeritus of the Executive Academy at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. His presentation, titled “New Capabilities for a New Capital: Lifelong Learning for Egypt’s Future,” emphasized the critical role of lifelong learning, innovation, and leadership development in building resilient economies and future-ready societies.
The establishment of the Career Development Center aligns with Egypt Vision 2030 and reinforces AUC’s role as a leading institution in continuing education, skills development, workforce readiness, and community engagement.
Commenting on the initiative, AUC President Dr. Ahmad Dallal said, “Through this center, we continue the School of Continuing Education’s century-long mission of supporting lifelong learning and professional development. We envision the center as a platform for collaboration with ministries, government agencies, companies, and institutions—not only to deliver training programs, but also to develop more effective models of partnership between education and the world of work.”
Dallal noted that labor markets around the world are experiencing rapid transformation driven by technological advances and economic shifts. He cited estimates indicating that nearly 40 percent of core workforce skills are expected to change by 2030.
He stressed that addressing these challenges requires close collaboration among educational institutions, government entities, and the private sector to provide continuous learning and professional development opportunities throughout individuals’ careers.
