Likee and Tkiyet Um Ali Ran a Success Ramadan Campaign to Support Families in Need

Dubai-UAE: 10 May 2022 – Likee, a short-video sharing platform with a global audience, had joined hands with Tkiyet Um Ali (TUA), an NGO in MENA with a mission to eradicate hunger, raise awareness of food scarcity and support the drive to provide nutritious food to families living in extreme poverty in the country. The short-video company had launched a new feature where users and creators could donate fasting energy and support the Sustainable Food Aid Programme of TUA as they continue to develop a sustainable food support system for those who live below the food poverty line in Jordan – many of whom are children, orphans, widows, the elderly, people with disabilities and those who suffer from chronic illnesses.
During the holy month of Ramadan, more than 450,000 Likee Users and Creators visited the Ramadan 2022 on Likee page where they discovered trending topics and hashtags during this season as well as a “Start Fasting” button. Once the button was pressed, a countdown timer begins after which an Energy Collectable would be redeemable. The more energy collectibles received and donated, the more donations were made to help Tkiyet Um Ali provide more food to people in need. Over 60,000 Likers had participated in the campaign and the funds that were raised were used to secure food parcels that were donated to hundreds of underprivileged families for a whole month.
Ramadan is widely regarded as the season to foster feelings of love, unity, and compassion not only among friends and family, but also throughout the global community. Likee’s partnership with Tkiyet Um Ali is meant to encourage Likee Creators and Users to use the power of content to spread positive emotions, contribute to a worthy cause and make the world a better place.
“We are proud to work with Tkiyet Um Ali for this important cause, and with the support of our users, provide an opportunity for those in need,” said Wick Wang, Operations Director of Likee MENA. “Our users and creators are constantly looking for new ways to support social causes and issues. We believe in the mission of TUA and that in today’s day and age people should not have to suffer from hunger and we have the tools and a community of individuals who want to be more involved in giving back to society. We look forward to our collaboration with TUA and also to see more individuals within our Likee community rise to the occasion and contribute to this noble cause.”
In terms of the content related to Ramadan 2022, Mr. Wick added: “The quality of content developed a sense of connectedness and solidarity between people – which is simply incredible. People learned about past traditions and also shared how they approached and participated in Ramadan this year. We look forward to seeing more creators and users continue to spread good virtue and advice on Likee as we continue to move through the year.”
Within Likee’s Ramadan 2022 section, there were numerous categories of content such as food, beauty, and religion where Likee users could watch relevant content throughout the month. They had the opportunity to discover and grow as individuals by learning how to cook healthy meals, take care of their health, and gain a deeper understanding of their religion.
There were a number of unique hashtags in Likee’s Ramadan 2022 section such as حيلرمضان# to find creative hacks to beat intense thirst during the fast, lose weight, maintain their energy and design a productive fasting day. قصصتاريخية# featured Likee Creators who shared stories of rich Islamic history that expanded the viewer’s horizons, grew their intellect, and teach them more about virtuous living. For those were searching for new flavors to enjoy كتاب_الطبخ# was a gold mine of delicious recipes to dive into when it came time to break their fast.
A great example of a user making the most of the section to benefit others is Dr. Alaa Slim. She explains in her video that ‘super following’ her on Likee allows members to have a direct connection with her so she can help them achieve their nutritional goals this Ramadan through custom-made diet plans.
Charity is considered one of the greatest acts of kindness across the Arab world, and this act can even take the form of smiling in the face of your loved ones. Likee and TUA came together this Ramadan to make it possible to participate in all possible forms of charity at once – from making friends and family laugh, to providing essentials to people who need it most.
