HONOR has proudly earned two distinguished spots on the TIME Best Inventions 2025 list, highlighting the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovation and research and development (R&D). It stands out as the only brand to receive multiple awards for smartphone innovations, reinforcing its status as a global technology leader.
The two award-winning innovations are:
HONOR On-device AI Deepfake Detection
This innovation tackles the increasing online threats by integrating a built-in deepfake detector into smartphones. This tool scans video calls directly on the device for indicators of deepfakes, such as distorted frames or unnatural facial movements. Processing the detection on the device reduces lag and eliminates the need for external data transmission.
TIME highlighted the importance of this groundbreaking feature, describing it as a “first-of-its-kind safeguard.” Jianfa Sun, the President of MagicOS at HONOR, stated that this innovation “shifts the burden of detection from the user to the device, empowering everyone to navigate the complex AI era with confidence and security.”
The on-device AI deepfake detection exemplifies the brand’s commitment to leveraging AI to enhance user security and protection.
The second award recognizes HONOR’s innovation in battery technology, which surpasses the density limitations of traditional lithium-ion batteries, enabling thinner foldable devices with longer battery life.
TIME praised the technical breakthrough, stating, “HONOR’s new battery design enables them to compact materials while extending battery life.” The latest Silicon-carbon Battery features 25% silicon content and measures just 2.3mm in thickness, providing an impressive 6,100mAh of power for the Chinese version.
In contrast, the version for the Middle East and Africa markets contains 15% silicon and offers a slightly lower capacity of 5,820 mAh. It recently debuted in the HONOR Magic V5, a new benchmark for a slim, refined foldable design.
