The sale of counterfeit goods is a significant global issue. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the global trade in counterfeit goods reached $509 billion in 2019, accounting for 3.3% of global trade, and this continues to be a significant and growing threat today.
Europol’s 2021 report highlights that counterfeiting is increasingly linked to organized crime, underscoring the severe risks and damages caused by these illegal activities.
Counterfeit goods also threaten markets across the Middle East, but authorities are persistently tackling this issue.
According to the Global Organized Crime Index 2023, in Kuwait, authorities frequently make large-scale seizures of counterfeit goods, including electrical items, which makes it essential for consumers to authenticate these goods.
