RIYADH – Gulf Tech :
The WWE Universe has crowned new champions after the historic conclusion to this year’s WrestleMania 39, with record-breaking championship streaks continuing and new legends arising at the two-day showdown on professional wrestling’s biggest stage in Los Angeles.
Across the 12 matches, featuring six championship contests, more than 160 thousand WWE fans packed into the SoFi Stadium in California to get a glimpse of WWE history, although the fairytale Hollywood endings were few and far between for the WWE superstars.
The 940-day championship streak of the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns continues after the most dominant athlete in the sport’s history defeated Cody Rhodes in the headline encounter on Sunday.
Despite the best efforts of Rhodes – a match which many felt he was destined for victory in – the American Nightmare was denied by Reigns, the longest standing Universal Champion in WWE history. Following his victory at WrestleMania, Reigns is now expected to surpass the 1000-day streak when WWE heads to Saudi Arabia for WWE King and Queen of the Ring on May 27.
To open the weekend, Rey Mysterio was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the 2023 class, before the WWE legend took on and defeated his son, Dominik Mysterio for the first time in an emotional weekend for the iconic wrestling family.
In Saturday’s headline battle, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn emerged as the new Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, defeating bitter rivals, The Usos in an incredible display. The victory for Zayn and Owens lands a significant blow to The Usos, with The Bloodline’s Undisputed Championship reign now officially over.
With high-flying spectacles across the full match card, Austin Theory held off John Cena on his return to the WrestleMania stage to retain his United States Championship, while Seth Rollins emerged victorious following an entertaining encounter with social media superstar Logan Paul.
While Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair saw her reign surpass the one-year-mark following her successful title defense against Asuka, the SmackDown Women’s Championship continues to change hands as Rhea Ripley defeated Charlotte Flair on The Grandest Stage of Them All in a brutal contest.
In the weekend’s Triple Threat Intercontinental Championship showdown, Gunther took down Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, with the friendly duo burying the hatchet after weeks of disrespect leading into the championship fight.
In the tag team contests, the epic Fatal 4-Way matchups saw The Street Profits take the crown in the men’s division, while the duo of Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez would emerge victorious in the women’s category. Elsewhere, Becky Lynch made her return to wrestling’s biggest stage, as the WWE Women’s Tag Team champion brought in legendary duo, Trish Stratus & Lita to take down Damage CTRL in the Six-Woman Tag Team match.
