Under the auspices of the Danish Ambassador to Riyadh Mrs. Liselotte Kjærsgaard Plesner, the first submerged pumps plant was inaugurated today within the context of a partnership involving Al Mousa Trading Group and Grundfos. The inauguration was attended by key executives and officials interested in the water and energy industry home and abroad. The new plant is set to produce SP submerged pumps pursuant to the world’s highest industrial specifications.
The Danish Ambassador to Riyadh stated that the Kingdom is effecting remarkable progress and a qualitative leap as it seeks to achieve Vision 2030 with seriousness, determination, and intelligence, and today, we are witnessing one of the manifestations of the Kingdom’s strong focus on smart solutions in its economy, and reliance on more sustainable options in achieving growth through the opening of a major submerged pumps plant that is due to meet the regional needs in the water industry. She also expressed happiness with all forms of cooperation and coordination with her country, that will definitely help achieving the targeted growth and development for both countries.
Dr. Naser Al Mousa, Chief of Al Mousa Trading Group pointed out that the launch of this plant in the capital of Saudi Arabia in partnership with Grundfos unleashes new horizons for industrial cooperation by focusing on providing solutions that combine and utilize the unique technologies that Grundfos possess in order to provide sustained, intelligent, and innovative solutions. We take this partnership as a shortcut approach to uplift performance and catch up with a business that develops very speedily.
Eng. Bassam Al Arabi, CEO Koon, an Al Mousa Trading company said, “According to The Saudi National Water Strategy set forth by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, there are circa 102,652 water wells across KSA up until Feb. 2022, and that 84% of water consumption comes from the agricultural sector, and that 90% of this sector relies on non-renewable underground water resources. We all realize the critical importance of water resources as stated by Vision 2030 due to the fact that the Kingdom’s annual average rainfall ratio is far less than the global rainfall average, which requires immediate action in this respect.”

“To further the reliance on local Saudi industrial capabilities, this plant was announced in the wake of a partnership fulfilled with a reliable company like Grundfos to built the first submerged water pumps in Saudi Arabia. The plant bears a global brand, hoping it would be a first step towards furnishing our clients with the best services as well as a cornerstone for initial development till we become able to produce full units of submerge pumps and well technologies domestically.” Al Arabi adds.
Michael Nielsen, Senior Regional Sales Director – Water Utility in Grundfos, adds, “we believe that sharing knowledge and expertise with local partners strengthens our commitment to bringing safe and clean water where it is needed most. The goal is to lead the way in improving the quality of life for people and communities as we promise to protect and advance the flow of water for all uses.”
Grundfos SP pump is widely used by farmers, municipalities, and government entities to source water for both industrial and human utilizations.
Grundfos and Koon’s collaboration paves the way for broader product flexibility, availability, and reduced lead time for customers in Saudi Arabia and the region. By stocking a range of pump components – rather than only the assembled pumps – Koon will now have added flexibility to make the most of its inventory. In addition, the company can now assemble and test SP pumps quickly and efficiently according to customer specifications – reducing the usual lead time for importation.
Koon’s plant is a significant step to further strengthen the two companies’ partnership. Being an authorized Grundfos utility the plant comes with prestige and substantial benefits. Grundfos is set to equip, train, certify and conduct regular audits to ensure that the facility complies with its high standard of quality. This would ensure the final objective of supporting local outfits in terms of competitiveness and expansion as well
